My blogging and social media ecosystem
Now that I've been on Bear Blogs for a year, I thought I'd document how I'm using it right now and how I've been enjoying it.
When I first started my Good Golly Zines project, I was just using Instagram to publicize new zines and events, and engage with readers. I created a Squarespace site when I started Mid City, my bimonthly city news zine series, because I had some funding and wanted to expand my digital presence. I enjoyed the look and feel, but Squarespace was too expensive. It wasn't sustainable for me over the long-term.
Although I wasn't really a blogger and I'm it's something I'm still getting used to, I switched the Bear Blogs because it was cheaper and simpler. I liked that it was customizable and challenges me to learn more about website building and basic coding. I especially liked how people on Bear Blogs were embracing the "small internet" in fun, new ways.
With Bear Blogs, I also moved my email newsletter to Email Octopus, which is a free service and seems to work pretty well for me.
I'm still building habits with my blog, newsletter, and social media presence. It's tricky balancing all of this with the actual zine-making I'm doing and then also having a day job, but I've really enjoyed Bear Blogs so far and love seeing how other folks are using the platform.
If you're reading this, consider posting on my Guestbook! I'm always curious about who is lurking around my corner of the internet and if you have any blog recommendations, I'd love to expand my horizons!
